If I have a knowledge of what is going wrong with someone then I can action a treatment that counteracts that wrong doing. For example if I diagnose someone with a fast abnormal heart rate (this means the persons heart is beating much too fast) then I can prescribe a medication that acts to slow this heart rate down and therefore remove what is wrong with them.
