I didn’t really get bullied myself. But because I moved around when I was young I went to lots of different schools, and got to see a lot of different bullies pick on people. It was surprising how similar they all were.

If you are bullied I think you should first make sure you tell your parents and your teachers. Its important they know so they can help you.

Secondly, you should remember that people are often aggressive to hide their own fears. Which means bullies may act tough on the outside but they aren’t really. Its wrong that they feel they have to bully others to make themselves feel better, but it sometime helps to understand why they act like they do. Its actually rather sad.

Finally, and I guarantee this is true, In every single case I know of the person who got bullied has made so much more of themselves as an adult than the bully. They have more friends, a better job, make more money and are generally happier. So being a bully is a pretty good sign your life is not going to turn out too well, I would say!

I’d second that. If you are being bullied at school you should tell someone you trust, someone who can help you figure out how to stop it. High school is hard enough on everyone without bullies, be a lot easier if people remembered to be kind.
And I think what Darren says at the end is definitely true 😉

I’m lucky that in schools in Singapore, bullying isn’t a big problem. It could be because teachers here are very strict and so no one dares to bully others. And usually if bullying is suspected, the teachers will put a stop to it very soon. So I haven’t been bullied or seen much bullying in action when I was in school.

But with the increased use of social media such as Facebook, bullying may become more common as it can now happen online as well. Hence, it is important to tell people you trust (your parents, teachers) if you are being bullied, either in school or online. As Katherine said, if we are all kinder to one another, the world would be a more pleasant place!
