Cathal Breen answered on 12 Mar 2012:

A heart murmur is a sound heard within the heart that identifies a leakage of blood. Predominantly a murmur describes a leaky heart valve. Some blood from the chambers of the heart are being leaked back. Most people have a tiny heart murmur and no treatment is required. However if a person was very unwell with a murmur then they will have to have surgery to repair or to replace the valve.
