Emotions are responses to specific situations. So if you’re doing something scary, your body responds in a specific way making you feel fear but that actually helps you deal with it. Other emotions might be made better or worse by different chemicals in the brain. One chemical, serotonin is thought to have a role in feeling happy, sleepy or depressed depending on how much there is. So some emotions are responses to things going on, others might be influenced by chemicals in your body.
