That we’ve got lots more work to do! Our most recent results showed us that we managed to make some materials by sticking poly(acrylic acid) to a zeolite (honey combed like solid material). Poly(acrylic acid) is often used as the absorbant bit in nappies 🙂 We’re hoping that tiny bits of silver can stick to the poly(acrylic acid) and hide in the pores in the zeolite. Silver can be used to kill bacteria so we’re hoping that this material might make a good dressing for a wound and stop it getting infected. We’ve worked out how to make the material, and we think we’ve made it right, so now we’re planning how to test it. We need to test it under conditions that are realistic so around body temperature, and into a liquid that is like body fluids such as blood.
