We’ve made a material where we took a honeycomb like material called a zeolite, and stuck little polymers onto the surface. Each particle looks almost fluffy because of the polymers on the surface. At the moment we’re using it to hold silver atoms to see if it can be used to kill bacteria. I’d like to use it for other stuff though – perhaps to see if it can soak up other metals from water like mercury, which is quite poisonous.
