      Oh good question! There are some chemists who do really fantastic work that’s interesting and clever. I think my fav scientist has to be Marie Stopes because she was amazing. She got a first class BSc degree in geology and botany after only two years in 1902, at a time when not many women were allowed to go to university. She then did a PhD in two years (most people take 3 or 4 years!) and did some fantastic work looking at fossil plants.She also became the first female academic of the university of Manchester. She went on to do a lot of other things in her life, but I like that she did what she really wanted to despite people telling her she couldn’t or shoudn’t.

      Fred Sanger. He is the only living person to have been awarded two Nobel Prizes.

      My institute is named after him because he pretty much invented protein sequencing and then went on and invented DNA sequencing. He is 93 years old now, but still leaves near here.

      My favourite scienst is Louis Pasteur. Through simple and elegant experiments, he was the first scientist to prove that microorganisms exist and that they were responsible for events such as food spoilage and disease. Before that, people thought that these occurred because something “arose” from the food or air. From his work, pasteurization was developed to prevent food spoilage and paved the way for vaccination as a way to prevent disease. So Louis Pasteur is widely regarded as the father of Microbiology.
