• Question: Why are people like Joseph Kony alive and what made them want to be so horrible to people? You should watch the Stop Kony video as well :)

I had to google him to find out who he is. I don’t know why humans are so cruel and evil towards other humans. I’m not sure anyone knows what makes people be so horrible to people. Some scientists think there might be certain genes that make people more likely to be horrible, but genetics is too complicated for the answer to simply be he has a gene. Culture and society have a lot to do with it – if you’re brought up to believe that certain people of a different religion, tribe, skin colour or nationality are bad or evil, then you may not recognise them as people. That makes it easier to be horrible. That may be used by one side to make people think it’s OK to be nasty to other people – if you read about world war 2, you’ll find that the Nazi’s used techniques like that to convince people that the holocaust was OK.
Ultimately we don’t know, and it is horrific.

I just watched the video and did some research on the matter. There are people who would do anything to fulfil their agenda, including murdering and forcing other people do things against their will. In Joseph Kony’s case, he wanted to set up a “pure” state in Uganda and he kidnapped children to be soldiers in his army. These children were deprived of a childhood and even forced to kill their own parents. It is horrific to me that someone could do something like that because I don’t think that these sorts of crimes towards other human beings are justified.

Although it seems very bleak in the video, there is hope. The world has taken notice and efforts are being made.
