The stars twinkle because the light from them passes through our atmosphere and gets distorted a wee bit, making it seem like the stars are twinkling. If you look out your window on a rainy evening, you’ll see that the rain distorts streetlights a bit – it’s the same thing really.

I thought it was when some of the hot stuff from the star goes up and goes back down and it makes a twinkle 😉
